New Jersey Lead Law Update (FAQ Series): How Does Lead Dust Form?

This week we are featuring a common question: 

Question:  How does lead dust form?

Answer:  Lead dust can form when lead-based paint is scraped, sanded, or heated.  Dust also forms when painted surfaces bump or rub together.  Lead chips and dust can reside on surfaces and objects that people touch.  Settled dust can re-enter the air when people vacuum, sweep, or walk through the affected area.
